The Octopus and Mermaid Dance was born out of a need for balance, wisdom and beauty in my life. I swim every week and the water and its symbolism is often in my thoughts. During the pandemic 2020 there was a great need to lose myself and find freedom in my art and spirituality but also I wanted to paint something that offered hope and inspiration to myself and others. The water element is connected to emotions. I wanted to paint a thing of beauty to lift our collective spirits. The Octopus symbolises the flexibility and adaptability we need in our lives but also the wisdom and intelligence that we all have. The Octopus has 3 hearts and is incredibly intelligent and can adapt to most physical situations. Octopus energy has the ability to defend and protect in the face of adversity, as it resides in in the depths of the oceans it is often spiritually linked to deep emotions. The Mermaid embodies the sacred feminine with uniqueness and non-conformity, cleansing and renewal with healing and energising qualities to help through transitions. Mermaid energy heals broken hearts and discouragements. In combination their dance is one of love, support and beauty.
